Intelligent lighting for a smart city pioneer

The city of Seoul, which has been experimenting with intelligent lighting solutions since last December, has installed two pilot projects in the city Centre, just outside the City Hall. The intelligent lighting demonstration aims to provide on-demand lighting with lighting levels that vary based on local traffic conditions.

“Today, many Korean citizens benefit from the internet of things and its applications in their homes and offices. Smart city applications offer a wide range of benefits for our citizens. We believe that smart cities are the future.”

The pilot has resulted in energy savings of over 90%. We have about 500.000 streetlights and these account for a lot of energy use. Intelligent lighting using LED’s with smart controls could play an important role in helping us achieve our energy targets.
