What is the advantage of a wireless lighting network vs. the network based on Powerline communication?

Wireless dimming systems are very easy to install and offer high flexibility. Power grid owners do not need to be involved for the installation. Therefore, regulatory or legal restrictions do not apply, since no foreign signals are transported through the existing grid. This makes wireless systems very easy to install and maintain, and thus more cost-effective than Powerline communication-based systems. Moreover, Powerline communication is susceptible to interference from heavy objects such as trucks.

How can Tvilight intelligent lighting system be managed?

Tvilight developed a functional, intuitive web-based management software that allows for easy remote monitoring, management, and control of the entire lighting infrastructure. With CityManager you gain an in-depth overview of the lighting system at any time and from anywhere.  This software is compatible with all Tvilight products.

Is it possible to upgrade/expand the Tvilight lighting system with third-party products?

The Tvilight Smart City platform allows for the integration of third-party hardware and software based on our unique system architecture. Software can be easily integrated via application programming interfaces (APIs), whereas hardware (e.g. additional sensors) can be integrated via a GPIO or an I2C interface.

Are there any special requirements for the implementation of the Tvilight system?

Tvilight intelligent lighting systems are plug & play solutions that are compatible with the traditional as well as modern lamps (e.g. LED). The only requirement for a successful installation is the dimmable driver, either 0-10V or DALI and a 5-core cable.  Within the network, a combination of 0-10V and DALI is also possible; the only difference being in the information gathered from the lamps (DALI can extract more lamp-specific information).

Do Tvilight’s outdoor lighting controls (OLCs) need power supply?

Yes, Tvilight´s OLCs need power supply to function, but the energy usage is very low (1-2 Watt).

Does Tvilight also have a solution for scheduled dimming?

CityManager allows clients to set up user-configurable lighting profiles, making the streetlights dim at defined intervals. Streetlights can also be dimmed automatically relative to the local sunrise/sunset times thanks to Tvilight AstroClock.

Is it possible to create dimming profiles per location?

CityManager offers plenty of possibilities when it comes to creating various dimming profiles. Individual light points and groups of those can be assigned their own dimming profiles if needed (e.g. fixed-level lighting, static dimming or dynamic profiles). It is also possible to assign different dimming profiles to categories of light points based on their application area (bicycle paths vs. residential areas).

Can the Tvilight system also be used with conventional lamps?

Yes, the Tvilight system is lamp-independent. Here is the list of lamps that work with our solution:

  1. Sodium-based light. Maximum dimming level is 50%
  2. Ceramic Discharged Metal Halide (CDM). Maximum dimming level is 40%
  3. Ceramic Discharged Metal Halide (CPO). Maximum dimming level is 35%
  4. Fluorescent lamps (PLL-CFL). Maximum dimming level is 70%

Is CitySense a sensor and an OLC in one?

CitySense is an all-in-one product. Once you install the CitySense, you will have an intelligent sensor and a wireless outdoor lighting controller in one product.

Where can I place the Gateway/Segment Controller?

Tvilight Gateway is also a plug & play product that can be placed either on a pole or on a wall.
